Our Story

The Deputies Baton & Drum Corps was formed 40 years ago by Linda Jones and was originally known as Dillon's Deputies. We share the same dream as Linda did all those years ago. We are a very diverse group with members from across Lorain County which provides opportunities to make new fiends from other schools and communities.

The Deputies have traveled and competed in many parades in the state of Ohio and beyond. We are proud to hold state titles from the King's Island competition and many titles from Twirl Mania International Championships competition at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We have participated in the Orange Bowl Bowl Parade; Miss America Parade in Atlantic City; the Independence Day Parades in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia; The Canton Hall of Fame Parade; Disney World Christmas Parade; Cedar point parades; Cavs games; and many more. We enjoy traveling with the corps and offering new and exciting experiences for our members and their families.

Many of our members have moved on to do great things after leaving the Deputies. We are proud to have had a feature twirler at West Virginia University, an Assistant Drum Major at The Ohio State University, a member of the Howard University Drum Line, a drummer for a major rock band, and so many more success stories. Our twirlers have also achieved many individual state, regional, national, and world titles. Many Deputy alumni attend universities, trade schools, become successful business owners, and all-around good citizens.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to develop, support, inspire, and mentor youth in the sport of baton twirling and the art of percussion.

Director's Note

Welcome! Thank you for choosing to become a member of the Deputy family. We are excited to be entering our 40th year teaching the youth of Lorain County the sport of baton twirling and the art of percussion based music. We work to foster a positive atmosphere for our members and their families  to learn and grow in their musicianship and in the sport of baton twirling. Every member of the corps brings his unique talent to the group and is valued for who they are. We offer a cost effective alternative to expensive extra-curricular activities for young people.

The Deputies staff is experienced and knowledgeable in their craft. We have USTA certified baton twirling instructors, judge and professional members of the organization as well as experienced alumni on staff.  The percussion staff is equally as qualified to instruct young people. They have been teaching drum and marching skills for over twenty years.

We are primarily a parade corps based group during the summer months.  The parade season begins in May and runs through October. During the off season, November through April, we are learning new skills, routines, cadences and working together as a group. We offer private lessons and training opportunities (additional fee) through our instructors.

The Deputies club and corps began competing indoors in February 2020. They recently traveled to Twirl Mania International Competition where they achieved three first place scores to win in their divisions. They also were awarded the Team Spirit Crown award for their outstanding spirit and sportsmanship.

We are looking forward to an exciting 40th anniversary and invite you to be part of something exciting!
